Welcome to Otay Elementary!

Otay Elementary School welcomes ALL students and focuses on Social and Emotional Learning as the foundation for rigorous academic instruction.  We practice Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and have the following school wide expectations for our students:

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Kind.

At Otay, we promote a school-wide
culture of reading through a balanced literacy approach across all content areas. Our goal is to foster a lifelong love of reading in our students!

Teachers collaborate biweekly while students get to attend Specialty classes. Every other week, all students get 2 hours of Art, Music and PE. Our full time music teacher also teaches orchestra and students in 3rd-6th grade have the opportunity to learn to play a strings instrument and work with teachers from San Diego Youth Symphony.

As the recipients of the Sage Garden Grant for the fourth year in a row, we have a dedicated teacher who provides garden and nutrition classes in a lab and in the garden throughout the year, fostering wellness and healthy eating.

To further support students' emotional needs we have a Full Time School Counselor who meets with students and supports teachers in their classrooms. We have two Full Time Impact Teachers who provide small group instruction to students in 3rd - 6th grade.
